Damselfly Nymph

Damsel nymphs swim in the upper 3 feet of water towards the cattails or bullrush to emerge as adults. Therefore the angler will see the nymphs swimming through the water.
Note that their colour will vary with the colour of the habitat they are living in.
Most intense emergences occur in early summer season


Material

Hook – Shrimp/pupa hook sizes #14-#10
Thread – Olive green 8/0 or 6/0 waxed
Tail – Light Olive strung Marabou feathers
Rib – fine gold wire
Head – Gold coloured metal bead


Techniques and Equipment

Fly Line – WF6F – Floating
Leader – 14 feet long
Depth Anchored – 20 feet deep but casting onto shoal which was 3 to 5 feet deep
Technique – Cast onto shoal, wait 10 to 15 seconds for fly to sink then begin 6 to 8 inch medium fast strip retrieve. Pause 2 to 3 seconds every 5 to 6 strips

Note – bead headed fly drops in water column when retrieve is stopped.
Undulating action attracts fish attention

Other fly line to consider using are intermediate sinking and mini tip lines
