Designed to imitate the adult chironomid as it just emerges from the pupal shuck. It is also an effective imitation of an egg laying adult chironomid. This fly will also imitate a mayfly as it has just emerged from the nymphal stage.
Chironomid egg laying generally occurs in the evening hours when winds are down and the females have the best chance of releasing eggs which will sink to the lake bottom and hatch into the larval stage.
Best time to fish the fly is when there are adults on the water either emerging or egg laying. Watch for birds, such as swallows, nighthawks, gulls that prey on emerging insects!!
